Steven Harrington - Psychedelia Pop
Steven Harrington is an artist and designer from Los Angeles, California. He’s influenced by psychedelic art from the 1960s and 1970s in the USA and his patterns often evoke Native American symbols, fashion and graphics.
His illustrations, serigraphs, murals and paintings use to show the influence of his living land and pop-inspired culture.
Steven Harrington has a fully recognisable signature style, in which other popular graphic artists of our time as Keith Haring, KAWS and Takashi Murakami seem to mix. His inspiration comes from street murals but for minimal designs too. All this, joined with pop iconography, skateboard designs and colourful psychedelia.
As a designer, he has worked with clothing, glasses, lamps, and countless other possibilities. In the world of fashion, the brand Nike has provided him with continuous collaborations and helped him with his first big exhibition in Los Angeles.
Although the Nike collaboration is maybe the most special, Steven Harrington has released watches for Nixon and made illustrations for brands like BAPE, Converse, KITH, Coachella and Ikea too.
Some of the most distinctive Steven Harrington Figures:
There are two 3” Dunny from Steven Harrington that maybe aren’t some of his most famous figures but they’re on his beginnings in making toys. Kidrobot’s Dunny from Dunny Series 5 released in 2008 and Dunny 2Tone in 2010 are based on Northern American imagery.
Medicom Toy Bearbricks are another big example of collaborations with brands. The first one is a 100% DesignerCon 2019 Bearbrick for the Artist Set (5 Pack) and the second one is a beautiful pattern for a Coastline Bearbrick 100% & 400% Set (can you spot Mello and the palms trees?).
The weaved Palm Trees based on a big sculpture were released in 2017. Only 200 available worldwide of this recurring character.
MELLO trapped on the iconic palm trees toy is based on a biggest sculpture. A 11” figure released in 2018 with some colour variants and produced by Toyqube.
Steven Harrington x AAPE
Fruit of the capsule collection presented at ComplexCon 2018, this figure includes Harrington’s palm with the principal character from the Japanese urban clothing brand AAPE by A Bathing Ape.
Limited Edition of 300 pieces worldwide produced by Toyqube. Size 12,7 cm (5”).
Cosmic Cone by Steven Harrington x Billionaire Boys Club Icecream
Steven's collaboration of 2019 with BBC Icecream presents a new special edition figure of his MELLO dog character wearing a space suit from Billionaire Boys Club holding an icecream in one hand. A 13” figure limited to 400 units worldwide and produced by Toyqube. The ice cream flavour on its hand is random!
Fingers crossed for Harrington's cartoonish mascot MELLO on this release from 2020. Only 100 were made and it’s huge (12”)! Toyqube is also in charge of the production, and that’s guaranteed quality.
The best Steven Harrington’s figures are now available on Kaneda Toys. Let's discover them, start your collection and enjoy the tropical and colorful patterns and the MELLO sculptures.
