Much more than rock posters and smoking rabbits
Frank Kozik (Madrid, 1962) has been a force in the designer toy movement with many of his works produced, but there is much more. The legendary San Francisco based artist, member of the Stuckism art movement, is also known for his rock bands posters and pop art.
Living his childhood in Spain during Franco’s dictator period was an influence for his later works. He moved to California when he was 15 and joined the Air Force at the age of 18.
Kozik designs products for lifestyle brands as Nike or Swatch and his works have been exhibited worldwide.
An entirely self-taught man that has worked with huge bands such as Nirvana, Pearl Jam, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Melvins, The Offspring, The White Stripes, Neil Young, The Beastie Boys, Green Day… creating amazing and colourful art posters and album covers and even directing music videos.
Kozik used to run Man's Ruin Records, created in 1995, a media outlet and record label with which he launched over 200 singles and records.
In 2001, Kozik energies started to focus on the art toys movement and that’s why he decided to close Man’s Ruin.
In 2007, he launched his own brand Ultraviolence. Under this label, he produces limited edition art objects in vinyl, fiberglass, bronze and porcelain that are often more complex than his other vinyl toys.
At this moment, Kozik works as Kidrobot’s Creative Director (one of the most important art toys companies) and helps other toy companies produce many versions of his iconic characters.
His different limited edition figures are over 500 and still counting. Some of them have special hand painted versions.
Kozik’s toys selection
A funny mistake with the japanese pronunciation of the smoking rabbits was the origin of the name of the most recognised Kozik’s figures. These little vinyl figures started as grumpy faced smoking bunnies and now have plenty of variants. Do you want them with moustache, ice-cream, as Marvel heroes? There are! Plush versions or seat huge rabbits? Got them too!
A Kidrobot Dunny would be no rare thing for Kozik. He has some special editions (even xmas versions) and some of the most searched ones. The Asian platforms as Qee and Bearbrick also have some good examples of the art of this “madrileño”.
Let Us Pray
One of the most elegant Kozik’s sculptures. Two hands praying to the only God that seems to interest everyone. A critic of the capitalist system in a serie of limited editions (criticizing and selling, that’s business!
